| dc.description.abstract | This doctoral study aims to provide a comprehensive survey of literary criticism in the Servet-i Fünun magazine in the late 19th century, by focusing on the idea of imagination in the formation of the Edebiyat-ı Cedide’s aesthetics. This will be done by analyzing the members of the Edebiyat-ı Cedide’s engagement with the 19th century’s critical thought in general and their involvement in the Servet-i Fünun magazine in particular. The study aims to depict Edebiyat-ı Cedide’s aesthetics as a response to the transformation of the realm of knowledge in the late 19th century that took place as a result of the advancements in science and technology. In this study, the fundamental issue is to illustrate the impact of scientific knowledge in the formation of literary criticism in the magazine, and by doing so to discuss Edebiyat-ı Cedide’s aesthetic language formed by the body and bodily sensation.
